Kate Barry came late to photography. "In 28 years, I was too old so that it accepts me. I took courses in the evening with Serge Picard, who has done portraits for Liberation", she said in an interview with Paris Match in 2005. "I needed to feel at ease technically. But I started with the Polaroid of Serge (Gainsbourg) child. It was very manic, but it had the right to touch. For me, there was something miraculous, the image appeared almost immediately. Long, I have not understood that photography was a trade, it remained the order of the game", she explained. His first command came from France Gall for her first album without Michel Berger. Kate Barry liked photographing women, often in black and white. She worked for various magazines (Elle, Paris Match...).

"It was a committed and generous woman," said Wednesday evening the AFP Franck Chaumont, former responsible of the communication of the association Ni putes ni subject and the office of the Minister of Culture Aurélie Filippetti currently. Kate Barry had graciously made photography emblem of the association established in 2003. "She came to the meetings of district. She actively participated in the beginnings of the association", he added.

In 1991, the year of the death of his father-in-law Serge Gainsbourg, Kate Barry had abandoned the styling, its original formation, to found, discreetly, the fit association (assistance and prevention of pharmaco-dependency by mutual assistance). In 1994, she succeeded, in collaboration with doctors and old dependants, to open in the castle of streams to Bucy-le-Long, near Soissons, a centre of free care inspired by the American model "Minnesota", based on of speech and self-help groups. Kate Barry had a son, Roman, born in 1987.
